Banking giant Citigroup said that last year it declined 11 transaction opportunities around coal mining or coal-fired power as a result of recently launched climate policies.
Why it matters: The tally, part of a wider ESG report released Monday, provides a rare glimpse at specific business fallout of Wall Street giants growing restrictions on certain types of fossil finance.

Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Tuesday directed the state not to conduct any public hearing related to the expansion of coal mining activity at Ramagundam near Godavarikhani area.
The bench of Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy discouraged a state counsel who tried to obtain the permission of the court to go ahead with the public hearing. The bench told him that this is not the right time to take up such work. Shreyas Reddy, the counsel for a petitioner who opposed the hearing, urged the court not to allow the hearing. The bench turned to advocate general BS Prasad and told him to instruct the officials not to take up any public hearing during the pandemic. “No congregation of people can be allowed. If such a thing happens, you will have us to deal with,” it said.

The China Iron and Steel Association said on Tuesday that fast-rising iron ore prices are “unreasonable”, the industry should enhance exploitation of resources both at home and abroad, and also improve rules for the futures market.
Meanwhile, the country’s environment ministry pledged it would dispatch specific panels to the ferrous sector and strengthen supervision and support, an official said in a briefing on Wednesday, without mentioning which mills or what places they would visit.
